  The Work We Do

The Trees of Hope Guild is our primary source of volunteers. Guild volunteers bring enthusiasm, ideas and dedication for Trees of Hope's support of Houston's homeless population through Star of Hope. Guild volunteer opportunities include serving on a gala committee, assisting in the TOH office, and volunteering at Star of Hope. Whether you have time to volunteer on a regular schedule, or can help on a one-time basis, there is a place for you within the Trees of Hope Guild. In addition to volunteer projects there are also fun social activities. You are always welcome to join us even if you are not a member so that you can learn more about us.

In Their Shoes - A Back to School Story

The Trees of Hope Guild holds two events for the approximately 70 children living at the Transitional Living Center at Star of Hope each year. This year's "Back to School" in New Shoes was held in August just before school began.

Our Guild along with support of their friends raised enough money to buy 110 pair of shoes. Guild co-chair, Terry Prather, and Sports Authority district manager Tony Patino work together to hold this event at the Post Oak store, and for a discount on shoes. Tony, the Post Oak store manager Manny Rosado, and all of his wonderful staff were happy to help! They set aside a special place in the store where the children could gather and receive snacks, balloons and have their faces painted.

As soon as the children arrived on the bus from Star of Hope, they set about measuring their feet for proper fit and along with Guild members (and some of their children!) helped them select their new shoes. We even had one of the boy's clubs from Second Baptist School helping this year.

The children had a great time selecting their shoes, joking around with each other and generally enjoying their last moments before the school year arrived. It was truly a happy time for everyone involved from the children to Guild members, store employees, and Star of Hope staff. As they head off to school in their new shoes, and the excitement of the year ahead, it was nice to see the smiles on their faces. Thanks to all who participated for your time and compassion as you help the Star of Hope children get off on the right foot as the new school year begins!!

Mother's Day Party

Our annual Mother's Day party for the children at the Transitional Living Center was lots of fun. There was pizza for everyone after school and wonderful iced flower cookies. The Guild volunteers helped the children to decorate flower pots and plant blooming live flowers into them. The children also decorated coffee mugs, and put them into pretty gift bags filled with "pampering" things as gifts for their mothers for Mother's Day. We don't know who was more excited about the gifts, the children or their Mother's! And to top off the afternoon, the children used lots of energy in the bounce houses.

Come help us next year, it is so much fun!

PinkTini's

Kelli Weinzierl hosted the Guild's Spring Pinktinis party. What fun for everyone to be together, make new friends, sign up for 2011 Gala opportunities, and best of all - watch the wonderful check presentation to Star of Hope for $410,000 as a result of the 2010 Swinging on a Star Gala. Hank Rush provided us with updates on what is happening at Star of Hope. This year's gala honorees were also presented.

Guild Membership

Please join the Trees of Hope Guild, and become involved in serving others less fortunate. The Guild has several different categories of membership: Patron, which is an active guild membership and includes serving on a committee; Sponsor which is a less active membership; Benefactor for those members who do not have much discretionary time to volunteer for Trees of Hope; and Lifetime which offers the highest financial support and states a special commitment to the Guild. Whether you have time to volunteer on a regular schedule, or can help on a one-time basis, there is a place for you within the Trees of Hope Guild.
