  Ways to Contribute

Trees of Hope’s mission is to conduct fund raising activities for the exclusive benefit of Star of Hope, Houston’s largest and oldest agency for the homeless. Throughout the year there are numerous ways that you are able to provide support. With this support since 1990, Trees of Hope has been able to donate over $6 million to Star of Hope.

Trees of Hope Gala:
Each year Trees of Hope holds a spectacular gala. The 2009 Star Light Star Bright Gala was a huge success. Gifts from this gala will provide children served by Star of Hope comfortable, safe, shelter – because children shouldn’t be afraid. Support for the annual gala may be provided by table underwriting, individual ticket purchases, sponsoring and/or decorating a tree or wreath, contribution for the live and silent auctions, purchasing at the live and silent auctions, or by making a donation for the Hope Tree and/or Feed a Child. Guild Membership:
Please join the Trees of Hope Guild, and become involved in serving others less fortunate. The Guild has several different categories of membership: Patron, which is an active guild membership and includes serving on a committee; Sponsor which is a less active membership; Benefactor for those members who do not have much discretionary time to volunteer for Trees of Hope; and Lifetime which offers the highest financial support and states a special commitment to the Guild. Whether you have time to volunteer on a regular schedule, or can help on a one-time basis, there is a place for you within the Trees of Hope Guild. Contact Us

Corporate Sponsorships:
Throughout the year there are many activities of Trees of Hope and Star of Hope that may be sponsored or underwritten. Please contact the Trees of Hope office to find out how you may be able to help. Contact Us

Hope Tree:
The Hope Tree features specific needs of Star of Hope and its children, homeless because of family consequences out of their control. Star of Hope opened the June Waggoner House of Hope on their Women and Family Emergency Shelter campus on Dowling St. because homeless children were the fastest growing segment of their services. The June Waggoner House of Hope provides supervised services for children from infants to age eighteen in a beautiful, clean , and safe environment. Contact Us

Feed a Child:
Women and children comprise the fastest growing segment among the homeless population. The average age of a homeless person is 9 years. A child without a nutritious meal in their body is unable to learn, and strive to end the cycle of homelessness of his family. It costs approximately $100 a week to feed a child served by Star of Hope. Won't you help us Feed a Child. Contact Us

Honor/Memorial Gifts:
Trees of Hope welcomes gifts made in honor of, in memory of, and on the occasion of special occasions. A nice card will be sent in your name to the person or family you designate. This is a touching gift for the recipient as it is showing your acknowledgement of them with a gift on their behalf that will benefit someone less fortunate. Contact Us

Hope Tree for Trees of Hope
Give to The Hope Tree to fund specific needs of Star of Hope and its children, homeless because of family circumstances out of their control. In 2009, Star of Hope served 1,375 children under the age of 18. Help us to help them.

Categories of Giving

Meals
It costs about $100 a week to provide nutritious meals and snacks for each child served by Star of Hope. In 2009 they served 668,385 regular meals to men, women and children.

Shelter
In 2009 SOH prepared 295,921 clean safe beds, 81,630 pieces of clothing and 1,265 toys to those who had lost everything. And 59,411 diapers to the smallest victims of poverty!

Education
$200 will provide a child with school shoes, school uniform, a backpack and school supplies. School age children at Star of Hope receive after school support with homework, tutoring and mentoring to help them stay motivated and catch-up academically with their peers because homeless children are twice as likely to be behind in school, and repeat a grade (due to frequent absences) compared to non-homeless children.

Spiritual Care
In 2009 Star of Hope distributed 2,668 Bibles and held 3,292 Bible studies, chapel services and spiritual life activities. Helping the adults to overcome their demons will help the children to break the cycle of homelessness that runs in many of the families.

Medical Care
$300 provides immunizations and an annual physical for one child.
